Vote for Schweppe
To the editor -- If you want a class act to represent our community, please vote for Al Schweppe.
He is experienced, having worked and grown up in politics. It has always been his passion and he knows key people in Olympia. He was a captain in the U.S. Army. As an attorney, he has represented Yakima County on several important cases that have saved us money.
Al's not the popular "old boy" down the street; he's the hard-working facilitator who will listen to all viewpoints and truly try to understand the issues. I should know; he married my ex-wife. From my experience, he is the kind of professional we want to represent us all. Republicans, Democrats and Independents. He is smart and will listen.

Another vote for Doc
To the editor -- Congressman Doc Hastings continues to get things done for the Yakima Valley. Whether it's getting the money needed to update our fairgrounds, writing the law about water storage, helping the Yakima-Tieton Irrigation District, drafting legislation for our veterans, or making sure our smallest communities have the vital services they need, Congressman Hastings is a strong and powerful voice for us in our nation's capital.
We're fortunate to have a representative who spends time in our community and works on our priorities. Doc continues to be the representative we need in Washington, D.C., to work on behalf of our Valley.
Vote for Doc Hastings in the primary and in November.

We need more oil
To the editor -- I was pleased to read in an online article by Ross Courtney that Congressman Doc Hastings supports drilling in Alaska and off U.S. coastal waters. I'm in favor of clean energy, but our country cannot run on clean energy alone and we can't all bike to work. We need to produce more oil and gas so that prices will come down.
I've seen the attack ads about John McCain and others siding with big oil -- but those who continue to limit the supply of American oil and gas by saying no to more drilling are the ones who are truly helping big oil companies and hurting average Americans.
When are Democrats going to learn that raising taxes is not the answer to everything? We need to produce more oil and gas here and we need to do it now.

Remember the pumps
To the editor -- When voters fill out their ballots this year, I hope they remember the price of gas. We need leaders who will actually do something to lower prices -- not stand in the way of solutions like drilling for more oil and developing nuclear power.
Right now the Democrats who run Congress and Olympia are beholden to environmentalists and have stopped attempts to produce more energy for years. It's time to replace politicians who are opposed to doing everything possible to lower prices and keep those like Doc Hastings who are doing the right thing.
For months, Doc Hastings has been in Washington, D.C., standing up for us and demanding that Congress vote on an energy plan that would lower gas prices -- but Democrats refuse to vote.
It's time to hold those who keep saying no accountable in August and November.

Norm knows the issues
To the editor -- I am voting for Norm Johnson to represent us in the 14th Legislative District as a state representative.
Norm has the needed experience to deal with legislative issues affecting our area. He is very knowledgeable in the educational arena and what problems our schools will be facing in the coming years. His tenure on the Yakima City Council and other Yakima Valley city/town councils has given him insight on issues our Valley communities are now addressing and must continue to address in the future -- crime, water, transportation, the economy, etc.
A vote for Norm will help strengthen our voice in Olympia.

King, Ross & Johnson
To the editor -- I feel we have a real opportunity to put together a great team for us in Olympia this year. Curtis King, Charles Ross and Norm Johnson are well qualified and experienced. I see no ego or special interest here, just three good men who are willing to serve and work hard for us.

Vote for Norm
To the editor -- I want to urge the residents of the 14th Legislative District to vote for Norm Johnson. His extensive background and understanding of this Valley will take him a long way in successfully representing us in Olympia.
Vote Norm Johnson.

Councilman's support
To the editor -- I have worked with Norm Johnson on the Yakima City Council for several years now and that's why I am supporting him in his run for the state House of Representatives.
I have a lot of respect for many of the other candidates running for this office, but I think Norm has the best chance of winning in November and representing the conservative point of view in Olympia.
Norm Johnson has served the citizens of Yakima well and I think he will make an excellent state representative. He is well known to elected officials up and down the Yakima Valley and he will be able to represent our concerns in the state capital.
Norm Johnson knows how to work with people and come to agreement on complicated issues. He knows how to make things work.
On a personal note, I have come to know Norm over the last few years and I respect and like him.
Pairing Norm Johnson with Rep. Charles Ross will create a winning team for us in the House of Representatives in Olympia.

Elofson a good addition
To the editor -- I had the privilege to office with Dave Elofson and his father, Howard. Howard Elofson was one of the finest lawyers -- and men -- that I've ever met. Dave is the proverbial chip off the old block.
We've always been proud of our Superior Court bench here in Yakima County. Dave Elofson will make a fine addition to our bench, and carry on that fine tradition.

Elofson for judge
To the editor -- I write this letter in support of David Elofson for Superior Court judge. We have been friends for over 20 years. I have observed David's conduct in many different circumstances, from leadership to athletic to social.
In each and every circumstance he has shown the kind of leadership and judgment we value in our legal system. He is a careful and caring listener with wisdom and common sense. He is the kind of person and has the kind of qualities we need as our next Yakima County Superior Court judge. I wholeheartedly support David and encourage Yakima County voters to do the same.

Yes to Lawrence-Berrey
To the editor -- I would like all Yakima County voters to join me in electing Rob Lawrence-Berrey as Yakima County Superior Court judge. I have lived in Yakima County for over 40 years and have never seen a man so involved in so many community events.
Rob Lawrence-Berrey will bring integrity to the bench and an understanding to the law from all aspects. Rob has the experience and the knowledge that make him the best choice. His trial experience is just one area of strength he will bring to the bench.
I have known Rob for over 10 years and can ensure the voters that he knows the legal field. As a school administrator, I must use good judgment when talking and supporting people. Rob Lawrence-Berrey is the best choice for Yakima County judge.
